Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Pain Assessment in Winnipeg
Heel pain can make every step harder. Request an assessment with Dr. Zach to talk through your symptoms and choose a next step that fits you. Heel pain is not always plantar fasciitis.

Could it be plantar fasciitis?
The plantar fascia is tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot between the heel and toes. Plantar fasciitis is one possible cause of heel pain. Pain with the first steps after getting out of bed or sitting for a while is a common pattern, but that pattern does not diagnose the cause. Pain can also have other sources, including a nerve problem or an injury. HealthLink BC explains the condition and other possibilities.
If heel pain keeps returning, gets worse, or limits your day, request an assessment at Daye instead of guessing from a symptom list.
What to expect at your Daye assessment
Your visit starts with a conversation with Dr. Zach Odwak about where the pain is, when it started, whether there was an injury, and what you have tried. Your work, activity, footwear, and existing orthotics may be relevant. Bring the shoes you use most and any orthotics you already wear so you can discuss them together.
Dr. Zach can examine your foot and look at how you stand or walk as part of an assessment that fits your symptoms. He can then discuss what he found and the next steps with you. An X-ray is not a routine part of every heel-pain visit: Mayo Clinic notes that most people with plantar fasciitis do not need imaging. If your findings call for medical assessment or another provider, that can be part of the discussion.
A care decision, not an automatic orthotics order
Care should match the person and the assessment. The discussion may include activity or footwear changes and stretching or exercise guidance where suitable. If foot mechanics appear relevant, Dr. Zach may discuss whether orthotics are worth considering; no device or treatment is right for everyone, and relief cannot be promised. HealthLink BC notes that no single treatment works best for everyone.
Start with a heel-pain assessment, not a decision about a device. You can request a visit with Dr. Zach without committing to orthotics. If you want more detail about devices, see Orthotics at Daye Chiropractic and Custom Foot Orthotics.
When not to wait for a routine appointment
Seek prompt medical advice if heel pain comes with fever, redness or warmth, or numbness or tingling. Seek urgent medical assessment after an injury if pain is severe, you cannot walk, you heard a snap, or your foot or ankle has changed shape. If you have diabetes and heel pain, contact a medical professional. These warnings are not a complete list. See HealthLink BC’s advice on when to call a doctor and the NHS heel-pain guidance.
Heel pain assessment FAQs
- Does heel pain mean I have plantar fasciitis?
- No. Pain with your first steps after rest can occur with plantar fasciitis, but heel pain has other possible causes. Your history and an examination matter more than a symptom pattern alone.
- Will I need an X-ray for heel pain?
- Not routinely. A clinician decides whether imaging or a medical assessment is needed based on your history and examination, especially if another cause such as a fracture is suspected.
- Will I need custom orthotics?
- Not automatically. Footwear, activity, movement, and your assessment findings all matter. Orthotics may be discussed if appropriate; they are not the starting assumption or a guaranteed solution.
