Lower Back Pain Treatment in Winnipeg
Lower back pain is the single most common complaint we see at the Kenaston clinic. Whether it started after lifting something, built up slowly from years at a desk, or showed up after shovelling out the driveway, it is usually treatable.

What’s causing your lower back pain?
A sore back can come from a dozen different structures. The common culprits change with age.
For younger adults, we often assess for lumbar disc irritation, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, spinal joint restriction, lifting injuries, and posture-related strain. For older adults, lower back pain more often involves facet joint osteoarthritis, lumbar spinal stenosis, degenerative disc changes, or a combination of joint and muscle compensation.
How chiropractic helps
Treatment starts with a full history and physical exam, with on-site digital X-rays if the picture warrants it. From there, care may include:
- Diversified adjustments to restore joint motion.
- Drop-table technique for patients who cannot side-posture comfortably.
- Activator adjustments for patients who prefer low-force, instrument-assisted care.
- Soft-tissue therapy and home exercises for the muscles and movement patterns contributing to pain.
- Progress tracking using your symptoms, movement, leg length, and hip stability so the plan can change if it is not working.
When to come in
If you have had pain for more than a week, or if it is affecting your work, sleep, or activity, book a visit. If your pain is severe, includes loss of bladder or bowel control, or radiates with weakness down a leg, treat it as urgent and seek care right away.
Lower back pain FAQs
- How common is back pain among office workers in Winnipeg?
- Very common. Desk workers often sit eight or more hours a day, and winter makes it harder to offset that with lunchtime walks. Chiropractic targets the mechanical part: joints that are not moving well and postural muscles that need retraining.
- Will winter shovelling really mess up my back?
- It can. We see a spike in lower-back complaints from December through March. Cold muscles, twisting, and heavy lifting are a classic recipe for disc and SI joint irritation.
- Does MPI cover chiropractic for back pain from a car accident?
- Yes, if your back pain is from a motor vehicle accident, you may be covered under MPI’s no-fault PIPP program. Bring your claim number to your first visit. See Work Injury & Car Accident Recovery for details.
- How long until I feel better?
- It varies. Some patients feel improvement the same day; others notice it over the next 24 to 48 hours. We usually build a plan in two to three week blocks and re-evaluate instead of adjusting indefinitely without progress.
- I live in Linden Woods or Whyte Ridge. How easy is it to get to the clinic?
- We are at 1600 Kenaston Blvd #150, about five minutes from Linden Woods and Whyte Ridge, just up Kenaston between McGillivray and Bishop Grandin. Free surface parking is available at the unit.
